Holly Daze kicks off every year with a lighted parade that will take place on Friday, November 30th. Floats and participants will line up at Dairy Queen and along York Street between 4:30 and 5pm. The parade will start at 5:30pm and end at the Midtown Mall. In years past the parade has been a favorite among young and young at heart. Families are lined up on Main Street from beginning to end to catch a glimpse of a favorite float, character and of course the special guest Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The Grand Marshall for the parade will be Dr. Muriel Poulin. To say a few words about Muriel is impossible. Her accomplishments here and around the world are outstanding. Having a distinguished career as a nurse is just touching the surface of her eventful life. After returning to the U.S. from her work abroad, Muriel earned a Master’s degree at the University of Colorado and her doctorate from Colombia University. Throughout her career, Professor Poulin did consulting for 12 graduate nursing programs in this country and consulted in 11 countries around the world. People should really take the time to read the SHS Hall of Fame profile on Muriel Poulin at www.paulauger.com or better yet, if you run into Muriel take a minute to talk to her. She is quite a woman!
Immediately following the parade there will be a tree lighting in Central Park. Of course, Santa and the Mrs. will be there to do the honors! Santa will be available in the park for a short time to talk to the children and find out at what they want for Christmas.
Something new this year is, build a “snow” crow. This is a spinoff of our Harvest Daze scarecrow competition. Purchase the crow body for $10 and then let your imagination take over. “Snowcrows” should be decorated in a Holiday theme. Completed crows will then be loaded onto a truck to display in the parade for judging. We would like all who enter to then show off their creations by displaying them during the holiday season.
Just after the events in Central park, take a short stroll across Main Street to the Sanford Springvale Art Association for their open house. Lots of great gift ideas for the Holidays. And speaking of gifts; Holly Village will be open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday starting Nov. 29th right up until Christmas. Holly Village Market Place is located at 883 Main Street. The Holly Daze Craft fair will span three weekends on Saturdays, starting Dec. 1st . They also will be at 883 Main Street. Check out the Pop up store a few doors down for more shopping
